Zanzibar Queens prepare for Cecafa Senior Women’s Challenge Cup
The Zanzibar Queens have stepped up preparations ahead of the 2019 Cecafa Senior Women’s Challenge Cup.
Tanzania will host the regional tournament at the Chamanzi Stadium from November 16-25th in Dar es Salaam.
Under the guidance of head coach Mohammed Salahi Richkard the Zanzibar Queens will open their campaign against Burundi in the first game of the tournament on November 16th.
Two days later Zanzibar Queens will face South Sudan who will be making their first appearance in the women’s tournament. On November 20th the Queens will face a tough task against defending champions Tanzania in the last Group A game.
“We are expecting a very competitive tournament because the women’s teams have greatly improved,” said Nicholas Musonye, the Secretary General of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa).
The tournament that is partly financed by FIFA has attracted eight teams with only Sudan, Eritrea and Rwanda missing out.
Group A: Tanzania, Burundi, Zanzibar, South Sudan
Group B: Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti
