Zanzibar Queens suffer second defeat
The Zanzibar Queens suffered their second defeat at the on-going Cecafa Senior Women’s Challenge Cup on Monday at the Chamazi Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
South Sudan won the Group A tie 5-0 to brighten their chances of qualifying for the semi finals.
Amy Lasu Luaya Lasu scored a brace for the South Sudan team, while Skipper Esther Luiz Elis and Chieng Thomas Manyol Riek scored the other goals.
Zanzibar’s skipper Abdallah Mwajuma was unlucky to deflect the ball past goalkeeper Hajra Abdalla Ali to score an own goal.
Zanzibar’s Yussuf Hashim Sabahi showed some glimpses of talent with good ball work and dribbling skills, but still failed to penetrate the South Sudan defending line.
Zanzibar’s coach Mohd Ali Salah said although they suffered defeat, the tournament is good exposure for his team. “We are in a learning process for the women’s team,” added the coach.
Tanzania beat Burundi 4-0 in the second Group A match to book a place in the semi finals. The defending champions have maintained a 100% winning run after registering a 9-0 win over South Sudan in the first game.
