CECAFA CHALLENGE CUP: Zanzibar Coach Suleiman optimistic of good show

Head coach of Zanzibar Heroes, Hemed Suleiman is optimistic his team will perform well at the 2019 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.

The regional tournament to attract 12 teams will take place December 7-19th in Uganda.

“We are preparing well and the players are responding well. The team is having some build-up games and we shall reduce the team before making the trip to Uganda,” added the coach.

Suleiman said the first target will be to make it out of the group stage and enter the knock out round. “We must plan for every game well enough,” added the coach.

Zanzibar is placed in Group C alongside Tanzania, Djibouti and defending champions Kenya. Kenya’s Harambee Stars beat Zanzibar in the 2017 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup final.

Nicholas Musonye, the Secretary General of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) said the fixtures will be out by December 3rd.

Some of the teams like Tanzania and Somalia will field a few foreign based players in the tournament.

Group A: Uganda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Eritrea

Group B: DR Congo, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia

Group C: Kenya, Tanzania, Djibouti, Zanzibar
