CECAFA CHALLENGE CUP: We need to start with a win – Hemed
Head coach of Zanzibar Heroes Hemed Suleiman has said it will be important to kick start the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup with a win against Sudan.
Zanzibar will start their campaign with a Group B game against Sudan on December 8th. The regional tournament runs December 7-19th in the Ugandan capital Kampala.
“We are happy to be here in Uganda because it is another good chance for our players to get the international exposure through such tournaments,” said the coach at the G One Hotel.
The coach made it clear that since they are only four teams in the group and two will qualify for the semi finals, it is very important to start well with a win.
“Starting with a win will be a good motivator for the boys before we face the nest two teams. Our group is a tough one because it has the defending champions kenya and Tanzania as well,” added the coach.
He said after the team finished second in the 2017 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup, they are working harder top finish even much better to win the trophy.
The competition will open on December 7th with Djibouti battling Somalia, while hosts Uganda face Burundi in Group A matches.
Guest side Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia and South Sudan withdrew from the tournament leaving nine teams to participate.
