Ethiopia may host CECAFA Kagame Club Championship
The President of the Ethiopia Football Federation (EFF), Esayas Jira has said they might host the 2020 CECAFA Kagame Club Championship.
Jira made it clear that although Tanzania won the bid to host the event, EFF has written to Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) and CECAFA requesting that Ethiopia host the season opening tournament.
Jira who is also the Second Vice President of CECAFA says they are optimistic they will be garnted the opportunity to host the tournament.
“We would like to host our teams in the region and also bring international football back to the local fans,” explained Jira.
Ethiopia’s top teams like Saint George and Fasil Katema could have the chance to play in the CECAFA Kagame Club Championship. Zanzibar will also be expected to field the top side in the Zanzibar Premier League. Uganda’s KCCA FC are the defending champions of the CECAFA Kagame Club Championship.
The other eight tournaments that the CECAFA region will host in 2020 include; CECAFA U-16 Boys Challenge Cup (Djibouti), CECAFA U-20 Challenge Cup and the CECAFA U-17 Women’s Challenge Cup (Burundi) and the CECAFA U-20 Women’s Challenge Cup will take place in Uganda.
Rwanda will host the Afcon U-17 Zonal qualifiers and the CECAFA Women’s Challenge, while Sudan host the Afcon U-20 Zonal qualifiers and the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup.
