CAF Women’s Champions League to start 2021
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) executive committee has decided that a CAF Women’s Champions League will start in 2021.
Chaired by CAF President Ahmad Ahmad, the executive made the decision on June 30th during an online meeting.
The executive decided to introduce the women’s Champions League as a way of having more activities for women’s football.
“The format and other details of this new competition will be communicated at a later date,” said CAF Acting General Secretary Abdelmounaim Bah in a communication sent to Member Associations on July 8th.
During an interview CAF President said that the competition will not start with many teams. “We shall start with between 10-15 teams for the start and keep building on from there,” added Ahmad Ahmad.
But as the Women’s Club gear up for the Champions League in 2021, the 2020 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has been canceled. CAF said the decision was made because of the various restrictions imposed on international travel and the uncertainties because of the emergence of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
