CAF opens nominations for election of President, Executive Committee members

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially opened nominations for election of the President, Executive Committee members and African members to the FIFA Council.

Abdelmounaim Bah, the CAF Acting Secretary General made the communication on September 12th to all member associations in the continent.

The CAF Elective General Assembly will take place on March 12th in Rabat, Morocco.

“We are pleased to inform you that CAF Executive Committee, at its meeting held by video-conference on the 30th June and 10th September 2020 respectively, has decided to convene CAF’s Ordinary and Elective General Assembly 2021 on 12 March 2021 in Morocco,” said the letter.

The letter further said since the 2021 General Assembly will mark the end of the four-year term of the President-in-office as well as the end of term of members of the CAF Executive Committee and the African Members to the FIFA Council as listed in the appendix 1 & 2, elections will be held for the above-mentioned positions.

He said the opening of nominations starts September 12th till November 12th, 2020.  “According to these above provisions, the names of candidates nominated must be submitted to CAF General Secretariat by registered mail with acknowledgement of receipt, or by express courier, as attested by the enclosed receipt at least four (04) months before the date of the election,” he added.

Madagascar’s Ahmad Ahmad became president of CAF in 2017 after defeating long serving Issa Hayatou. Three members from the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) sit on the CAF Executive Committee. These include President of Djibouti Football Federation, Souleiman Hassan Waberi, the Uganda FA boss Moses Magogo and co-opted member Abdigani Said Arab, also President of the Somali Football Federation president.
