Yanga to face Simba in 2021 Mapinduzi Cup final
Young Africans (Yanga) and Simba SC will clash in the final of the 2021 Mapinduzi Cup on Wednesday at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.
The two Vodacom Tanzania Premier League top sides sealed their places on Monday with Yanga seeing off Azam FC 5-4 on penalty shoot outs after a 1-1 draw, while Simba SC defeated Namungo SC 2-1 in the second semi-final clash.
In the first well balanced semi-final Tuisila Kisinda netted for Yanga after 51 minutes, but Obrey Chirwa leveled matters 17 minutes later for Azam FC. But Yanga proved a better side when it came to penalty shoot outs to win 5-4.
Simba SC, fresh from qualifying for the group stage of the lucrative Total CAF Champions League also made sure they kept their 100% winning record in the tournament.
Skipper Meddie Kagere netted after only 6 minutes before Miraji Athumani got his name on the score sheet after 40 minutes to give Simba SC a 2-0 half time lead. Steven Sey later pulled one goal back for Namungo SC after 87 minutes.
Simba’s care taker coach Suleiman Matola said he was happy the team is unbeaten in the tournament as they go into the final. “Our target remains to win the Cup,” added Matola.
The 2021 Mapinduzi Cup which started on January 5th attracted; Simba SC, Young Africans, Azam FC, Mtibwa Sugar, Namungo SC, Chipukuzi FC, Mlandege FC, Malindi FC and Jamhuri FC.
