2020 Women African Cup of Nations to have 12 teams
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that starting from the 2020 Women African Cup of Nations participating teams will be 12.
Previously only eight teams took part in the Women African Cup of Nations, but the executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) during a meeting in July this year increased the number to 12.
Besides the increase for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, the number of teams for the men’s U-17 and U-20 African Cup of Nations will also increase to 12 from 8.
“Kindly note that the increase of the teams will be applied for the 2020 edition of the Women African Cup of Nations and the 2021 editions of the U-17 and U-20 Africa Cup of nations,” said a communication signed by CAF Deputy General Secretary, Anthony Baffoe.
In the past Tanzania and Kenya are the teams from the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) region that have managed to qualify for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
