CECAFA U-20 CHALLENGE CUP: Zanzibar to face in-form Eritrea in quarter final clash
Zanzibar will face an uphill task when they battle in-form Eritrea in a quarter finals clash at the on-going Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup in Uganda.
Eritrea topped Group A to qualify to face Zanzibar who came third in Group B.
In their last Group B match against Tanzania on Thursday, a 10-man Zanzibar team suffered a 5-0 defeat. Striker Kelvin Pius John netted a hat-trick, while Lusajo Elukaga Mwikenda and Novatus Disnas Miroshi also picked a goal each. Zanzibar had Mudathir Nassor Ali sent off later in the second half.
But Zanzibar’s coach Nasor Sawn Mohamad has warned that a knock out is a different ball game. “We know Eritrea has been playing well in the tournament, but we are also going to prepare well in the few days to be able to put up a good show,” said the coach.
He added that besides making it to the knock out stage, he is happy that his players are getting the international exposure in the tournament.
The other quarter final matches that will be played on Sunday will see Sudan face South Sudan, while Uganda Hippos take on Tanzania at the Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu. Burundi will battle Kenya in the second quarter final match to take place at the Fufa Technical Center in Njeru.
The semi finals will be played on October 2nd, while the play-off for their place and final take place October 5th.
