Zanzibar exit Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup in Uganda
Eritrea has knocked out Zanzibar at the quarter final stage of the on-going Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup.
Zanzibar fell 5-0 in a match played at the Fufa technical Center in Njeru.
Cheered on by a big crowd of Eritrean fans leaving in Uganda Mewal Yosief Tesfai and Ali Suleiman netted a brace each, while Simon Asmelash also got his name on the score sheet.
Zanzibar who had two players suspended tries to play a highly defensive game, but failed to stop the Eritrean team.
Nasor Sawm Mohamad, the Zanzibar coach said his boys we out played by the Eritrean team. “We failed to play well and the suspension of two players also affected us,” he added.
Tanzania also shocked hosts Uganda 4-2 to qualify for the semi final stage, while Kenya saw off a hard fighting Burundi team 2-1 and Sudan beat South Sudan 1-0.
Semi finals will be played on Wednesday, while the play-off for third place and finals are slated for October 5th.
