CAF CONFEDERATIONS CUP: Al Masry eliminate Malindi SC
Al Masry stopped Zanzibar’s Malindi SC 3-1 on Sunday to qualify for the next round of the Total CAF Confederations Cup on a 7-2 goal aggregate.
The Egyptian side took the lead only four minutes through Ahmed Yasser in the second-leg match at Borg El-Arab Stadium. Yasser made no mistake connecting home Omar Kamal’s well taken cross.
But the Malindi SC leveled matters through Ibrahim Ali against the run of play. He captalised on a free kick to head the ball past Al Masry’s goalkeeper Ahmed Masoud.
After recess the home side regained the lead through Ahmed Yasser on 55 minutes before Austin Amutu made it 3-1 after 60 minutes.
“I am happy that we have qualified for the next round of the tournament. We need to keep working hard to be able to get good results,” said Al Masry coach Ehab Galal.
The other teams from the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) that have qualified for the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup include; Bandari FC (Kenya) and Uganda’s Proline FC.
