Zanzibar to prepare strong squad for 2019 Cecafa Challenge Cup
The Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) has said they will facilitate the technical team to prepare a strong team ahead of the 2019 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.
Uganda will host the regional tournament that brings together national teams from December 1-19th.
The Harambee Stars of Kenya are the defending champions after they defeated Zanzibar in the final of the 2017 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup when it was last held.
Mohamed Ali Hilali, the ZFF General Secretary confirmed that they will make sure a strong team is prepared for the tournament.
“We came second at the 2017 Challenge Cup in Kenya and this year we want to prepare a much stronger team can can perform even much better. We have good players who I believe if they training together for some time will make a strong team,” added Hilali.
Nicholas Musonye, the Secretary General of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) said they might invite a guest team to participate in this year’s tournament. The Libya national team is among the few teams that are eager to participate in the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup as a guest side.
The teams expected to grace the 2019 Senior Challenge Cup include hosts Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia and Zanzibar.
