Three guest teams apply to feature in Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup
The 2019 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup will take place December 1-19th in Uganda.
Nicholas Musonye, the Secretary General of the Council of East and Central (Cecafa) confirmed on Monday that all 11 member nations have confirmed participation including Zanzibar.
“We have applications from three countries who want to participate as guests and we shall look at the best to invite,” said Musonye.
Libya who took part as a guest side in the 2017 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Kenya are one of the teams interested in spicing up the regional tournament this year.
“We are certain that teams are going to prepare well for this tournament that will climax the season. The draw and fixtures will be released on November 1st,” said Musonye.
Kenya’s Harambee Stars are the defending champions, while Zanzibar Heroes came second in the last event held in 2017 in Kenya.
The 11 nations that have confirmed participation include; Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, Somali, Djibouti, Zanzibar, Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia and hosts Uganda.
