Zanzibar Heroes coach invites players for Challenge Cup
Head coach of the Zanzibar Heroes Hemed Suleiman has invited 47 players to prepare ahead of the 2019 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.
The regional tournament that brings together national teams from the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) region will take place December 1-19th in Uganda.
Suleiman said the final team will be trimmed to 23 to make the final squad that will travel to Uganda.
Mohamed Ali Hilali, the Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) General Secretary confirmed that they will facilitate the team well because the target is to perform better than in 2017.
Zanzibar Heroes lost in the finals to hosts Kenya in the last Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in 2017.
This year Cecafa might invite a guest team from another region to spice up the tournament. Nicholas Musonye, the Cecafa Secretary General said they already have three teams that have applied to take part in the tournament. “We shall meet and decided which team to invite,” said Musonye.
The teams expected to grace the 2019 Senior Challenge Cup include hosts Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia and Zanzibar.
