Zanzibar Queens face South Sudan in Cecafa tournament
The Zanzibar Queens will this afternoon battle South Sudan in a Group A match at the on-going Cecafa Senior Women’s Challenge Cup in Dar el Salaam, Tanzania.
After suffering a 5-0 defeat to Burundi on Saturday, the Queens will be all out to try and get their first win in the regional tournament at the Chamazi Stadium.
“We are slowly building a team and the players are ready to play their hearts out against South Sudan,” said Zanzibar Queens coach Mohammed Salahi Richkard on Monday.
The second Group A match will see defending champions Tanzania face Burundi in what promises to be a thriller. Tanzania lead the group after their 9-0 win over South Sudan on Saturday, while Burundi are second with same number of points but lower goal advantage.
The regional tournament partly sponsored by FIFA has attracted eight teams. In Group B matches played on Sunday Kenya stopped Ethiopia 2-0, while Uganda whitewashed Djibouti 13-0.
