Defending champions Tanzania defeat Zanzibar Queens
The Zanzibar Queens have lost their last Group A match to defending champions Tanzania at the on-going Cecafa Senior Women’s Challenge Cup.
Cheered on by a passionate crowd Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Queens won the match 7-0 at the Chamazi Stadium on Wednesday.
Donisia Minja and Asha Rashid netted two goals each, while Diana Lucas, Philomena Daniel and Anastazia Katunzi also had their names on the score sheet
After restricting the Kilimanjaro Queens to two goals in the first half, the Zanzibar team seemed to tire in the second half giving the opponents lots of space to pass the ball.
Zanzibar’s star player Sabahi Hashim Yussuf was given no room to shot at goal. Zanzibar’s head coach Mohd Ali Salah said it was a good match because they played against a very good team and the players have got the exposure needed.
“We are taking back experience gained from this tournament. Although we lost all the three games, losing is part of learning,” he added. In the opening match Zanzibar lost 5-0 to Burundi before losing by the same score to South Sudan in Game 2.
In the first Group A game played on Wednesday Burundi beat South Sudan 3-0 to cement their place in the semi finals.
