Libya to feature in 2019 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup
The Secretary General of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa), Nicholas Musonye has confirmed that Libya will be a guest side at the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.
Musonye told this website in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania where the Cecafa Senior Women’s Challenge Cup is taking place that 12 teams will take part in the regional tournament.
The tournament which brings together national senior men’s teams will take place December 7-19th in Kampala, Uganda.
“It is only Rwanda among the members who will not participate. But from the three guest nations that applied to take part, Libya has been considered,” he added.
He made it clear that the tournament is likely to be played at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole and the KCCA FC Stadium in Lugogo. Musonye said the groups and fixtures for the regional tournament will be released on Sunday.
In the 2017 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup held in Kenya, the Zanzibar Heroes lost 1-0 to guest side Libya.
Zanzibar Heroes who finished second in the last Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup held in 2017 are currently in camp preparing for the tournament under coach Hemed Suleiman.
The teams that have confirmed participation include; Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Burundi, Somalia, Djibouti and Libya.
