CECAFA CHALLENGE CUP: Facing Zanzibar is like a final – Otieno

Kenya’s assistant coach Zedekia Otieno has said facing the Zanzibar Heroes is like playing in the final of a tournament.

The two teams will face-off this afternoon in a Group B match at the on-going 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup at the StarTimes Stadium in Kampala.

Although the defending champions Kenya have already qualified for the semi finals, the Zanzibar Heroes need to prove a point by winning the match if they hope of brightening their chances of making it to the knock out stage.

“We know Zanzibar is a very good organize team and facing them at such a time when they need points is like playing in a final. We shall respect them and also play the best we can,” added Otieno.

Kenya kick started their campaign with a 1-0 win over Tanzania before they struggled to stop Sudan 1-0. The Zanzibar Heroes drew 1-1 in their opening match against Sudan before falling 1-0 to the Kilimanjaro Stars of Tanzania.

Suleiman Ali Hemed, the Zanzibar Heroes coach said they have no option but to win the match. “We have made our work harder and we must now go all out and play our hearts out,” added the coach.

Hemed made it clear that they must go all out and look for early goals, but also make sure they defend well.

Zanzibar will hope that skipper Addas Yahaya Mudathiri, Awesu Awesu Ali, Abdallah Faisal Salum all find their touch in a match that means a lot to them.

The second Group B match will see Tanzania face Sudan. The semi finals will be played on December 17th, while the play-off for third place and final will take place Decmeber 19th.
