CAF to make announcement on different competitions
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has said they will soon make announcement on developments to the different competitions amidst the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
“CAF is monitoring the situation closely and working with the relevant authorities including the Wealth Health Organization (WHO), FIFA amongst others on the impact of the virus on the continent, and will announce developments to our competitions at the appropriate time,” said CAF.
The Emergency Committee of the African Football body held an online video-conference yesterday where they discussed several issues pertaining to football in the continent
A total 10.8 million US Dollars financial grant was approved to be sent to the 54 Member Associations (MA). “The CAF Emergency Committee has approved the immediate distribution of financial grants to Member Associations (MA) to support the management of football at the domestic levels hugely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said the communication.
“Due to the fast-spread of COVID-19, African MA’s have suspended all domestic competitions, which has brought about huge financial burdens on their shoulders. CAF has thus decided to wave the eligibility requirements to access the annual grants, so all MA’s can benefit during this difficult period,” said CAF President Ahmad Ahmad.
The Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) suspended all football competitions since the later part of March 2020 after the emergence of the Coronavirus. But the government has given ZFF the go ahead to resume the Zanzibar Premier League after June 5th.
