Engage all stakeholders to develop Football – Baffoe
Deputy general secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Anthony Baffoe has advised all the Member Associations (MAs) to always engage all stakeholders if football is to move in good better direction
“It is always good for the MAs to engage all stakeholders like the Clubs, sponsors and even governments,” said Baffoe while making an online presentation via webinar on Wednesday discussing, “How COVID-19 is impacting African Football players and Clubs.”
Baffoe made it clear that CAF did not impose on any MA on various scenarios in their respective competitions. He said already 36% of members in Africa have strategy in place with intention to pursue completion, 23% have been annulled, 31% are undecided, while 5% have not kicked off.
The 2019/2020 Zanzibar Premier League was also halted in March because of the fear of the Coronavirus.
Speaking about the different CAF competitions like the Champions League, Africa Cup of Nations and Africa Nations Championship among others, Baffoe said they will wait for World Health Organization (WHO) and other experts to give them clearance before Scheduling competitions.
The emergence of COVID-19 in March forced CAF to postpone all the competitions including the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers and the CHAN tournament among others.
Gonçalo Almeida, a former FIFA Counsel & CEO ADA said although COVID-19 is a very unfortunate reality, football teams and Federations need to think outside the box.
The other presenters included; Felix Anyansi-Agwu (Enyimba Intl. F.C. Chairman), Geremi Njitap (FIFPRO Africa President) and Hicham El Amrani (Former CAF General Secretary & CEO HEA Sports). BBC’s Mimi Fawaz moderated the webinar session.
