Bashir’s lone goal sinks Zanzibar’s KVZ in CAF Confederation Cup

A first half strike by Cabten Bashir was enough to see home side Al Amal Atbara defeat KVZ FC 1-0 on Friday afternoon.

It was the first leg match in the preliminary round of the 2020/2021 CAF Confederation Cup played at the Al Hilal Stadium in Khartoum, Sudan.

The Al Amal Atbara attack found a mixed up defence before Bashir slotted in after to make it 1-0 after 12 minutes. KVZ FC also created two good scoring chances in the first half, but failed to take them.

The second half saw both teams return charged and playing with more caution. The Zanzibar Cup holders KVZ FC made sure they gave the Al Amal Atbara players no time to pass around the ball around.

Al Amal Atbara coach Kifah Salih said he was not happy that his players failed to score many goals. “We now need to work hard ahead of the second leg in Zanzibar,” added the coach.

The return leg will be played on December 5th at the Amaan Stadium. The winner between KVZ FC and Al Amal Atbara over two legs will face the winner between Ghana’s AshantiGold FC and Salitas FC (Burkina Faso) in the second round.
