Zanzibar eager to host 2021 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup
The Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) has informed the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) that they want to host the 2021 Senior Challenge Cup.
Seif Kombo Pandu, the ZFF President said while in Rubavu, Rwanda early this week that he has already informed Cecafa of their desire to host.
“It has taken several years since a Cecafa tournament has been held in Zanzibar. We have good playing surfaces now and we have what it takes to host the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup with the help of the government,” added Pandu.
Auka Gecheo, the Cecafa Executive Director confirmed that ZFF has made their proposal of wanting to host the 2021 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup. “I have asked them to put it in writing before the Cecafa Board holds an online meeting on December 22nd to discuss the 2021 calendar as well,” added Gecheo.
But the Cecafa Executive Director highlighted that due to the COVID-19 challenges that are still present, Cecafa is likely to have only four tournaments take place next year. He said they plan to have two tournaments for the seniors and two for the youth category.
