Defending champions Mtibwa Sugar face Chipukizi as Mapinduzi Cup kicks-off
Vodacom Tanzania Premier League side, Mtibwa Sugar FC will this afternoon face Chipukizi FC as the 2021 Mapinduzi Cup kicks-off at the Amaan Stadium.
The tournament which has attracted nine teams including giants Simba SC and Young Africans SC will run January 5-13th.
The Mapinduzi Cup is among the major activities carried out nationwide to mark the 57th anniversary of Zanzibar revolution.
Young Africans SC, who are leading in the 2020/2021 Vodacom Tanzania Premier League will also be in action later today in the second game against local side Jamhuri FC.
Simba SC and Namungo FC who are still involved in CAF competitions with games taking place tomorrow are expected to arrive in Zanzibar after the tournament has kicked-off.
Azam FC who reached the semi-final stage last year have also vowed to win the Mapinduzi Cup this year.
Zakaria Thabit, the Club’s Information Officer said they are determined to win the trophy this year. “The players are fine and everyone needs to show what they have so the fans can support us in achieving the goals we have set for ourselves,” added Thabit.
The semi-finals of the tournament will be played on January 11th, while the final and play-off for third place will be played two days after.
