Azam FC set to battle Mlandege in 2021 Mapinduzi Cup

Vodacom Tanzania Premier League side Azam FC will battle Mlandege FC later tonight in the fourth match at the on-going 2021 Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar.

The Mapinduzi Cup is among the major activities carried out nationwide to mark the 57th anniversary of Zanzibar revolution.

The two teams will be facing off against after a few months when Azam FC defeated the reigning Zanzibar Premier League champions 2-0 in an international friendly match played in Dar es Salaam last September.

“We need to make sure we have a good start in the tournament. We have prepared well,” said Azam’s new Zambian coach George Lwandamina.

On Wednesday Mlandege FC settled for a goalless draw against Malindi FC in the first Group C match played at the Amaan Stadium.

The tournament which has attracted nine teams kicked off on Tuesday with defending champions Mtibwa Sugar stopping Chipukuzi FC in a Group B match, while Jamhuri FC held Young Africans to a goalless draw in a Group A match.

Simba SC who qualified for the CAF Champions League yesterday after a 4-0 victory against Zimbabwe’s FC Platinum are expected to arrive in Zanzibar later today.

Simba who were meant to play today will now have their fixture against Chipukuzi FC taking place on Friday. The play-off for third place and the final will be played on January 13th.

Group A: Yanga, Namungo, Jamhuri

Group B:  Simba, Mtibwa, Chipukuzi

Group C: Azam, Malindi, Mlandege
