Young Africans SC celebrate winning 2021 Mapinduzi Cup
The head coach of Young Africans (Yanga SC), Cedric Kaze has said they are deserved winners of the 2021 Mapinduzi Cup.
Yanga defeated arch-rivals Simba SC 4-3 on penalty shoot outs after a goalless draw in 90 minutes during the final played at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar on Wednesday.
Yanga scored their penalties through Tuisila Kisinda, Shaibu Abdalla, Zawadi Mauya and Burundian international Saido Ntibazonkiza, while Mukoko Tonombe had his saved. Simba scored through Francis Kahata, Chris Mugalu, and Gadiel Michael, while Meddie Kagere was denied by the woodwork, and Joash Onyango had his saved.
“I am happy that we won the Cup. We kept improving since the tournament started and am happy the players listened well to advice,” said Kaze as the team arrived on Friday in Dar es Salaam to a heroes’ welcome.
To reach the final Yanga started with a goalless draw against Jamhuri FC before stopping Namungo 1-0. In the semi-final they edged Azam FC in penalty shoot outs after a 1-1 draw.
Haruna Niyonzima, the Yanga skipper said they are happy to win the Mapinduzi Cup which is a good motivator as they battle to win the Vodacom Tanzania Premier League title.
The Mapinduzi Cup played to celebrate the revolution in Zanzibar this year attracted nine teams with five from Tanzania mainland and four from Zanzibar.
