U-23 Challenge Cup Set to open 2021 CECAFA season
The Challenge Cup for U-23s men will kick start the 2021 Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) season.
Auka Gacheo, the Executive Director of CECAFA says the tournament will take place July 3-18th in Ethiopia.
However, all the teams that will take part will have to pay US$20,000 which will help the hosts for logistical purposes. The Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) has indicated that they will send a team for this first tournament of the season.
According to the CECAFA calendar the top teams in the region will later participate in the Kagame CECAFA Club Championship slated for August 1-15th in Tanzania. KCCA FC from Uganda are the defending champions after winning the title in 2019 in Kigali, Rwanda.
Kenya will later host the CAF Women’ Club Championship League Zonal qualifier between July 17th to August 1st, while the CECAFA U-20 Women’s tournament takes place in Uganda August 21st to September 5th.
The season will be crowned with the CECAFA Senior Women’s Challenge Cup slated for December 17-31st.
