New Generations FC drawn against Ethiopian, South Sudan teams
After clearance by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Zanzibar’s New Generations FC was today drawn in the Zonal Champions League qualifiers.
In the draw carried out by CECAFA Executive Director, Auka Gecheo online, New Generations FC has been placed in Group B to face Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (Ethiopia) and South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars FC.
The Zonal qualifiers for the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League will be held in Kenya between July 17 to August 1st. The best team in each of the three groups will automatically qualify for the semi finals, while the best placed second team in any of the groups will also make it to the last four.
Tanzanian side Simba Queens FC who boost of some foreign players in their squad will be the team to watch in Group A as they lined up against Lady Doves WFC (Uganda) and PVP FC (Burundi).
Group C has Scandinavia FC (Rwanda), FAD (Djibouti) and Kenya’s Vihiga Queens FC.
Eritrea’s Denden FC and Sudan’s Aldeefa Khartoum that had earlier last month indicated they would participate failed to beat the deadline for the deadline for club licensing and were not drawn.
