KMKM SC to open against champs KCCA in Kagame Cup
Zanzibar Premier League champions KMKM SC will open their CECAFA Kagame Cup campaign against defending champions KCCA FC on August 1st at the Chamazi Stadium.
The regional tournament which will attract nine teams will run in Dare es Salaam, Tanzania from August 1-14th.
In the draws conducted by the CECAFA Executive Director, Auka Gecheo yesterday, KMKM SC is placed in Pool A alongside Uganda’s KCCA FC and Le Messager Ngozi from Burundi.
KMKM SC will play their second game against the Burundian Premier League champions on August 5th.
Pool B has Azam FC (Tanzania), Altabara FC (South Sudan) and Kenya’s Tusker FC. Young Africans SC are placed in Pool C alongside Express FC (Uganda) and guest side Nyasa Big Bullets from Malawi.
Gecheo said after the group stage the ninth placed team will be ejected, while the quarter final stage will see the best ranked team facing the 8th ranked, while the 2nd ranked team takes on the 7th ranked team. The 3rd ranked team will also face the 6th tanked and the 4th ranked battles the 5th ranked.
The tournament will be played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium (Taifa) and Azam FC’s Chamazi Stadium. Defending champions KCCA FC will kick off the tournament with a game against KMKM SC on August 1st.
