KMKM suffer defeat to Libya’s Al-Ittihad
The Zanzibar Premier League reigning champions KMKM SC suffered a 2-0 defeat to Al-Ittihad in the first leg of the preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
KMKM SC held the Libyan team for long spells before Muad Eisay gave the visitors the lead after 45 minutes at the Amani Stadium yesterday. Mohamed Zaabia provided the cross that Eisay capitalized on to score.
In the second half KMKM employed a better approach, but failed to find the killer punch in-front of goal.
With five minutes to full time Omar Belhaj crossed for Rabia Al Shadi to score Al-Ittihad’s second goal.
The defeat means a tall order for KMKM SC in the return leg at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi.
Zanzibar’s representatives in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, Mafunzo SC also lost at home 1-0 to GD Interclube.
